Neptune Fountain

Standing since 1633, before the Artus Court of Neptune Fountain is a symbol of Gdansk. The initiator of its creation was the mayor of Gdansk Bartłomiej Schachmann . The figure of Neptune refers to the union of Gdansk with the sea. Molded her Peter Husen and Johann Rogge, and was cast in 1615 in Augsburg. The designer of the fountain was designed by Abraham van den Blocke. Surrounded by a magnificent grille from 1634. In the years 1757-1761 Johann Karl Stender transformed in the spirit of rococo fountain basin and the plinth, adding a whole array of sea creatures. According to one legend it was in Gdansk Neptune contributed to the famous Gdansk Goldwasser liqueur. Outraged that the coins are thrown into the fountain, trident struck the water and smashed into tiny flakes of gold, which now adorn the splendor of his great herbal liqueur.
