Main Town Hall

The most prominent and most valuable secular building of the former Gdansk, the seat of city government. Was built from 1379 to 1492. Helmet of the tower with a height of 80 m, created by a master with Dirk Daniels Zealand, metal crowns, gold-plated statue of King Sigismund Augustus. The three wings of the present courtyard was completed in 1593-1596, the late XVI century on one of the corners of the sundial was placed with the Latin maxim "Shadows are the days of our life." Completely burned in 1945 was rebuilt to 1970 is now the seat of the Gdańsk History Museum. The interior hall decorated in the style of Dutch Mannerism. Most turned out - Great Council Hall, also called the Red Hall is considered one of the richest modern interior town hall. Its decor is the work of such masters as Hans Vredeman de Vries, Izaak van den Blocke and Simon Herle. The hall ceiling is decorated with 25 paintings by Isaac van den Blocke the pronunciation of the symbolic. The most famous of these is the "Apotheosis of Gdansk"
